THIS year’s Christmas season is here with us once again, being the popular occasion in memory of the incarnation and birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God. This is usually celebrated on the 25th day of December, every year.

Incarnation:  First of all, is Jesus Christ truly the Son of God? The Holy Bible confirms this in several ways. In Isaiah 7:14, the Bible says, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign; behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” (which literally means “God with us”). Again, in Isaiah 9:6, 7, the Bible says, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.”

Reasons for incarnation:  Why did God, the Son, become man?

(1) Christ came to reveal the invisible God. In John 1:18, the Bible says, “No one has ever seen God, but God (the Son) the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.” Also read John 14:9.

(2) Christ came to reconcile man to God. In I Timothy 2:5, 6, the Bible says, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men…” Also read Hebrews 2:14; II Corinthians 5:19.

(3) Christ came to destroy the Devil and his works. In I John 3:8, the Bible says, “He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the Devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”

(4) Christ came to give life. In John 10:10, the Lord Jesus Christ declared that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus Christ) have come that they (believers) may have abundant life.”

(5) Christ came to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18).

(6) Christ came to fulfil prophecy:  In Genesis 3:15, God in His mercy promised to send a Saviour. At the fullness of time, Jesus Christ came to fulfil this prophecy. This gives us full assurance of our hope in God that He will also surely fulfil His promises to individuals.

(7) Christ came to show God’s love to humanity and to save. (John 3:16, 36; 1:12; 14:6; Acts 4:12; 10:38, 39; 16:30, 31; Rom. 3:10, 23; 5:8; 6:23).

Therefore, believe and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour today, and be saved from eternal hell fire!
