Saul committed an offence against God, and he blamed the people. David, in his own case committed an offence against man, but was quick to recognize that ultimately it was God whom he had offended. When Nathan confronted him on the case of Bathsheba, he turned to God and said,

Psalms 51:3-4 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is evef before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

That is the life of a person who would advance towards perfection. He did not give sin a good name to perpetuate it in his life. Thus, David foreshadowed for us the life of a Christian.

But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

This shows that we must have implicit faith in God, believe that He is, and diligently seek Him. These are the essential ingredients of pleasing God.

Colossian 1: 10-13, admonishes us to be fruitful, strengthened according to His glorious power, and always giving thanks unto the Father in order to please Him.

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

These passages of the Holy Scriptures show us that it is not enough to belong to the Lord. We need to walk worthy of the Lord. He did not bring us into the kingdom just for the fun of it, but to show forth to the world what the light of God is like.
