ShareTHEY definitely have no talent but you cannot accuse them of not being entertaining. It was quite a shock when they made Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011
List. The announcement caused anger and dismay. How can the Kardashians who are famous for being famous get onto the same list topped by the late Steve Jobs, the co-founder of apple and a pioneer of computer revolution? Trying to comprehend the reason for such entering into the prestigious list, it has been tagged Barbra Walters’ most sarcastic prime time special. Though most people think they should not be on the list, 2011 has been quite a year for the Kardashian clan, particularly for Kim. All in one year, they went on war of words with the Obamas because they exercise their parental rights by preventing their teenage daughters from watching the Kardashian’s reality show, in the UK Kim Kardashian is the most searched celeb on the internet, Kim sued Old Navy and its Parent company, the Gap Inc. over ads starring lookalike, the mega blow out of Kim marriage and divorce in 72. The mêlée was played out in the press for weeks making them easy jib for jibes.
Though they made it onto the list, however, 82 year-old veteran journalist Barbra, showed the Kardashians no mercy as she interviewed the family for the ABC TV special, without mincing her words she took a swipe at the family for finding fame and fortune without any real talent and questioned Kim about the sex tape she made with hip-hop star Ray-J (Brandy’s brother) in 2007 which helped launch her into stardom. Referring to the x-rated tape, Barbra asked Kim: 'So was it a good thing to have done?' a clearly rattled Kim found it difficult to answer 'Whatever you do, you might think...' Kim stammered, trailing off unsure of how best to answer. She then added ‘I’ve made mistakes in my life for sure’ before she could say more, her mother and manager Kris Jenner quickly controlled the situation saying 'You learned a lot from that.'
Kris went on to explained how 'devastating' it was for the family, stating that she cried herself to sleep a few nights then got an attorney and tried to salvage a not so pleasant situation. Barbra further questioned the family on how they were able to stay in the spotlight saying; 'You don't really act; you don't sing; you don't dance, You don't have any - forgive me - any talent!' Khloe interjected saying: 'We're still entertaining people. I think it's more of a challenge for you to go on a reality show, and get people to fall in love with you for being you, none of us think we have talent. None of us think we can sing or act or dance.'
With the Kardashians, you either like them or hate them. Some celebrities are more vexed by them than fascinated. Daniel Craig the James Bond Star threw diplomacy to the wind as he criticised those who "sell" themselves and then say they don't want people intruding into their private lives. "I think there's a lot to be said for keeping your own counsel," said the Bond actor, who married Rachel Weisz in secret this year. "It's not about being afraid to be public with your emotions or about who you are and what you stand for. But if you sell it off it's gone."
"You can't buy it back - you can't buy your privacy back. Ooh I want to be alone. F*** you. We've been in your living room. We were at your birth. You filmed it for us and showed us the placenta and now you want some privacy?" he said, citing the Kardashian sisters as prime examples. "Look at the Kardashians, they're worth millions. I don't think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them…You see that and you think 'what, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f***ing idiot on television and then you'll pay me millions.
They have admitted they don’t have any talent yet they are making millions and have built an empire that includes an array of endorsement deals, clothing and accessories line ‘the Kardashian Kollection’ and a bestselling book ‘Kardashian Konfidential’. Their talentless success is a reflection of today’s society where vanity, brazen self-absorption, and sex takes centre stage or perhaps in convincing us they do not have talents is where talents lie.
