AND being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.  Matt. 2:1-16

Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people “ Every boy that is born you must throw into the Nile but let every girl live’’  Exo. 1:22(NIV)

John The Baptist
John the Baptist suffered at the hands of Herod. He was locked up in prison. One day Herod was having a birthday party and the wife of his brother who he had snatched was in attendance with her daughter. The girl was a good dancer and Herod asked her to come and dance to entertain his guests. The girl so thrilled the guests that Herod probably after having too much to drink asked the girl  to ask anything up to half of his kingdom. The girl rushed to her mother to inquire what she should ask for. Her mother told her to demand for the head of John. She got it. Herod sent to the prison to have John beheaded.

Daniel
Daniel was among the Jewish slaves carried to Babylon.  There, he distinguished himself and served under three governments: that of Nebuchadnezzar, Beltshazzar, his son and Cyrus, the Medo – persian king that arose after the Babylonian kingdom fell.  But under Nebuchadezzar, Daniel suffered unjustly.

It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;

And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever

All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
