Maradona complains of neglect at Al Wasl

Share

AL Wasl coach, Diego Maradona was critical of Al Wasl Chairman Marwan bin Bayat’s transfer policy, after watching his Al Wasl side succumb to a 3-0 reverse to Dubai in the Etisalat Cup yesterday, a result which gives The Cheetahs little chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

However it was the boardroom that felt Maradona’s wrath, as he insisted promises had been broken in relation to transfer activity this month, while also revealing that it was the Pro League and GCC Champions League where Wasl’s priorities lie this season.

“The management did not make enough reinforcements to the squad, I was promised six new players but only two came. Like we say in Argentina, we would like to bring out all meat from the fridge to serve it, but we were not able to.

“The reserve team played because we don’t have a great chance of qualifying for the next round."

We wanted to rest the players who played a lot in the past, and focus on league and Gulf Cup. Because of the lack of quality players we had to name a stronger bench than expected, he said.”

The Argentine legend also revealed that a lack of understanding from his players had been the main reason for the defeat - and that heads would roll as a result.
