Spoken words are powerful. Blessings or curses are effective only when they are pronounced. In Genesis chapter twenty-seven, Isaac blessed Jacob. When Esau came back from hunting and got prepared for his father’s blessings, Isaac told him it was too late. He had pronounced all the blessings upon Jacob and nothing could reverse them. Esau insisted that his father could not have had only a few blessings in his mouth. When Isaac opened his mouth to bless him, he was only confirming the lordship of his brother over him. The words were already gone out and they were inrrevocable.

“Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be everyone that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.’’ And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, oh my father. And Isaac answered and said unto Esau,’’ Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee’’, my son?

And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.” Gen. 27 v 28-30, 34, 37, 39-40.

Isaac himself realized he could not do anything against what he had pronounced upon Jacob. Spoken words are very powerful. They are spirit. Once they are released the matter is settled.

“But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.” 2Kgs. 5 v 25-27.

Elisha cursed Gehazi. As soon as he spoke our the words, action began. Negative forces were activated against Gehazi immediately. He went into the presence of Elisha a healthy man, but left a leper because of the pronouncement of the prophet. Spoken words are powerful. Gehazi was yet to become a leper when Elisha started asking of his whereabouts.

The anointing was already upon Elisha. It was only waiting for him to make a pronouncement. As soon as the curse went out of his mouth, the skin of Gehazi changed instantly.

The word went to river Jordan, collected the leprosy of Naaman and put it on Gehazi immediately.
