NDLEA has not paid me - Baba Suwe

Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina, has come out to inform the public that the NDLEA has not obeyed a court order that he should be paid 25million naira for his incarceration by the drug agency over alleged narcotic trafficking.

At the recently held rally at the Gani Fawehinmi Square in Ojota, Lagos, against federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy, he told reporters that he was yet to be ‘settled’ by the agency for the embarrassment caused him for the illegal detention. “I have not received any money from the government,” he said.

Popularly known as Baba Suwe, the actor described his ordeal in the cell as the worst moment in his life “I was alleged of a thing I knew nothing of, it was a sorrowful experience.

"It is natural for people to talk about you. Those who never liked you will believe you do drugs to earn a living. In all, I give thanks to God,” he recounted.

The actor is, however, set to do a movie on the alleged drug saga. "As long as I live, I must put it in a film for people to watch.”

On October 12, 2011, Baba Suwe was arrested by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Mur’tala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on allegation of drug trafficking.

His case drew media attention as he was in custody for almost a month while no drug was found on him. With over three excretions, he was still not charged to court for any offence.

It took a court order for his eventual release on November 4, 2011, after his lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, filed a court motion for a violation of his human rights by NDLEA. The court also ordered that NDLEA pay the sum of N25million to the actor.
