Ekiti N2bn G/H project wasteful -PDP •The project is necessary -Govt
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Ekiti State and the state government are at loggerheads over the proposed new government house by the Fayemi administration.
The state governor, Kayode Fayemi, said the proposed project would cost N2billion, while PDP in the state criticised the move to have a new government house in the state, saying it was a sheer waste of public funds.
The state publicity secretary of PDP, Pastor Kola Oluwawole described the proposed N2 billion project as a show of irresponsible leadership and economic wastage.
However, the state Information Commissioner, Hon. Funmi Afuye, said the project was a necessity because the state didn’t have any Government House.
The PDP said, “We are criticising Fayemi not because we want to be seen doing so. Some of the things flying around don’t bother us as they remain unverifiable.
“But the N2billion new government house is a clear case of irresponsible leadership and economic swindle.
“How does that benefit the masses? Oyo State is still using the government house, governor’s office and the House of Assembly built in the 50s.
“This is a pointer to more reckless and economically unwise decision. Can we purge him of this apparent misplacement of priority? The answer is no.
“We lack the capacity to change his person and impart in him knowledge that can only be acquired by experience.”
The PDP, therefore, called on people of Ekiti to vote out the ACN-led government if the state is to witness meaningful progress.
However, the state Information Commissioner, Honourable Funmi Afuye, said that Fayemi administration could not be accused of being profligate.
Hon. Afuye argued that Ekiti State did not have a government house, saying the present one used to be the official quarters of a judge which was converted to a government house when the state was created.
He continued, “The present government house in Ibadan was built by the then Western Region government and since it is still in good condition, it is unreasonable for subsequent administrations to build another. In case of Ekiti State, we don’t have government house.”
He applauded Governor Fayemi whom he said was trying to rebuild the state, particularly Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
