Ulli Beier has been dead for more than a year now, but it seems the celebration of this ‘son of Obatala’ will continue for a long time to come.

First was the great honour done him by Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo, in June last year, followed by another equally befitting celebration in the form of a conference and symposium organized by the Institute of African Studies, UI, in November of the same year.

Now comes the presentation of a book with the intriguing title, Weighing the Cost of Pin-Making: Ulli Beier in Conversations, edited by Remi Omodele, a Nigerian scholar resident in California, USA.

As the second half of the title indicates, the book is not about Ulli Beier as such, but rather a collection of interviews he had over the years (from the 1980s to the late 1990s) with many eminent Nigerian writers, scholars and artists in Iwalewa-Haus, Bayreuth, Germnay. Among such distinguished Nigerians are Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Niyi Osundare, Sophie Oluwole, Biodun Jeyifo, Rowland Abiodun—just to mention a few.

The book presentation, which will be at the Institute of African Studies, UI, at 12 noon, on Tuesday 24, July, 2012, is being co-sponsored by the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding (CBCIU), Osogbo and the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan.
