The  National  leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the weekend  inaugurated   a 3- man caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of Enugu State chapter of the  party pending when a substantive elected state executive would be put in place.

To this end, the Southeast Zone of the party has boasted that it would not  rest on its oars  until it wrested  power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the five states of  the region in 2015.

Inaugurating the committee in Enugu, the national Vice Chairman of ACN in Southeast zone, Dr. Chudi Nwike, said ACN remained the political party to beat  in various elections  in the next general elections especially in Igboland and the country at large.

Dr Nwike stressed that the  party had all it takes to dislodge the PDP, because it had remained  strong and focussed since it came on board because of the caliber of politicians who make up its leadership.

According to him, the  3- man caretaker committee was put in place as directed by the party’s  national secretariat, with a view to preparing the ground for the enthronement of an elected  executive  committee during a congress.

The ex deputy-governor of Anambra State appealed to party members in Enugu State to accord the interim body all the needed cooperation to enable them succeed.

Dr. Nwike advised   committee members to see the assignment as a call to service and not avenue to witch hunt or exclude anybody.

He also used the forum to sue for unity among various chapters of the party  in the zone especially Enugu State, pointing out that as an opposition party, they would achieve  nothing if the house is divided or operates a crisis.

The ACN chieftain  charged members to imbibe the culture of loyalty to authorities of the party at all times, positing that discipline remains one of the hallmark of a true party man.

He, however, urged the Barrister Bartholomew Ugwuoke-led committee  to always carry every member along so as to give them a sense of belonging, “because united we stand and divided we fall.

Speaking at the event graced by a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. A.Ekwo,  the party’s  senatorial candidate in Nkanu East district during the last general elections, Dr Benjamin Nwoye, emphasized the need for the existence of a focused and formidable  opposition in any democratic system of government, saying without a strong opposition as ACN, there would be no true democracy.
