My joy is the return of peace in Ibiono Ibom — Lawmaker
Member representing Ibiono Ibom Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Ime Okon, has said that his greatest joy is the seeming peaceful co-existence that has returned to the political sphere of the council area.
The lawmaker stated this at the Ikpa Pavilion, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area during his first constituency visit and commissioning of constituency office as well as the launching of empowerment scheme recently.
Addressing the people of his constituency, Hon Okon who is also Chairman, Rules, Ethics, Business and Privileges Committee in the house said the commissioning of the constituency office and the empowerment package were in fulfilment of his campaign promises.
Recounting his achievements in the aspect of lawmaking which he noted was his primary assignment, Okon said he has enjoyed a good working relationship with other lawmakers.
Even as he had sponsored one motion, co-sponsored four bills which had all been passed into law.
Apart from the empowerment packages doled out last weekend, Okon said over one hundred indigenes of the area have benefitted from a special fund set up to assist them in areas of health care, small business financing, education (projects and school fees).
To deal with the problem of unemployment in the area, he said there was an ongoing skills acquisition and financial support scheme in place adding that he has also recommended indigenes of the area who were employed by the government.
“Twenty youths carefully selected across the eleven wards after due consultations are enjoying monthly grants to improve their businesses and welfare, Over N5 million has been spent so far in that area” he explained.
In the area of education, the lawmaker revealed that a N1 million scholarship scheme will be inaugurated to cater for the educational needs of under-graduates and HND students of Ibiono Ibom origin in Nigerian recognised institutions of higher learning.
To support the state government’s free and compulsory education, the lawmaker revealed that a quiz competition has been organised by his office for primary schools in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area with prizes awarded to the winners.
