I never picked Obi as consensus Igbo presidential candidate - Ezeife

FORMER governor of the old Anambra State, Okwadike (Dr.) Chukwuemeka Ezeife on Friday  debunked rumours making the rounds that he has single handedly picked incumbent Anambra  State governor, Peter Obi as the consensus Igbo presidential candidate for 2015.

In a chat with Sunday Tribune in Abuja, Ezeife said it appeared some people want to prevent him from playing an active role in ensuring that an Igbo man becomes the next  President of Nigeria.

He declared that he wants to be a neutral promoter and as such would appreciate a  situation where the Igbos would engage in corporate campaign for at least a year and meet with the people of the other five geo-political zones to solicit for  their support.

Ezeife said that it was after such a move that individual aspirants should be encouraged  to show interest in the presidential race.

“Now, if any person has chosen any aspirant at this too early stage, how does the person  remain relevant in the process?” He asked.

He frowned at a situation where some people are accusing him of having tipped or picked  any person for the Presidency and argued that such a more would make him irrelevant in the process, adding that the Igbos cannot start with individual candidates and hope to succeed.
