Gunmen kill policeman, injure others in Kaduna
Suspected members of the Boko Haram group in Kaduna have killed a policeman and injured another man with his daughter on Saturday evening.
Sunday Tribune was told by an eyewitness that at about 5 pm in Kakuri area, the gunmen attacked, causing confusion in the area.
One Sunday Abutu who said he was around the vicinity when the shooting took place, narrated that the policeman had gone to repair his motorcycle at a motor mechanic workshop along Samaru Road close to Excel Universal College when the gunmen arrived.
He said the men numbering about five did as if to strike a conversation with the policeman, only for one of them to push him down and seize his gun.
“He was trying to get to his feet when one of them carrying the gun started shooting him and eventually killed him”, he said.
The other injured man was identified as the mechanic in whose shop the incident took place along with his daughter.
At the Gwamna Awwal General Hospital where the mechanic was receiving treatment a contingent of the Kaduna State police force “Operation Yaki” numbering about 9 were seen patrolling the area, but did not comment on the issue.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, D.S.P. Aminu Lawan, confirmed the incident, saying that “I am confirming to you that the incident happened; we have commenced investigation into the incident and we believe that the facts that we have started gathering would give us the clue we needed”.
On the identity of the policeman, Aminu said “Yes, he is a policeman attached to our mobile unit along Sabo road.”
