Two suspected members of the Boko Haram sect have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command. The accomplices of the two arrested suspects allegedly laid siege on Minna, the Niger State capital and its neighbouring communities.

Their activities were said to have resulted in the death of five police officers in the state.

Confirming the arrest and detention of the suspects, spokesman of the command,  Mr. Richard A. Oguche, told Sunday Tribune  that they were arrested with two pistols in their possession late on Friday evening within the state capital.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the suspects were riding a motorcycle when a team of policemen stopped them and conducted a search on them after which the weapons were discovered on them.

Oguche disclosed further that the two suspects had attempted to run but were unlucky as they met a stiff resistance from the policemen. In the ensuing battle, one of the suspects was shot but taken to the General Hospital, Minna, for treatment.

It would  be recalled that no fewer than five policemen had been killed by some yet to be identified gunmen at different locations.

The state Commissioner of Police,  Alhaji Ibrahim Maishanu told Sunday Tribune that the police were yet to identify the killers. “We know that our men were killed and that matter is still being investigated. We do not have any clue as to whether it was the Boko Haram sect who did it or not. But all options are opened,” the CP said.
