A policeman (name withheld) attached to the Oyo State Police Command, on Saturday, beat a commercial driver to pulp over a bribe of N50.

The policeman, Sunday Tribune learnt, had, at Adekile area of Ibadan, the state capital, allegedly committed the crime over the driver’s refusal to part with the bribe.

As a result, he was said to have used his baton to beat the commercial vehicle driver to unconsciousness.

Incensed passers-by were said to have descended on the policeman and beat him, but he was rescued by other members of the force who later arrested him over the alleged misconduct.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Femi Okanlawon, who confirmed the incident, said the driver was revived after several efforts.

He said the policeman had been arrested and detained as a result of his conduct, adding that the policeman would face disciplinary action over alleged misconduct.
