THE chairman of the Consultative Committee set up by the government of Kano State in the wake of 20 January, 2012 bomb blast, Alhaji Magaji Danmata, has said the uncontrolled influx of foreigners, huge rural–urban migration, the Almajiri syndrome and grinding poverty have combined to cause insecurity in the state.

According to him, because Kano has been reduced to an ‘urban jungle’ over the year, it has become susceptible to frightening security challenges.

Making the assertion while presenting the report of the committee to the governor, Engineer Rabi’u Musa Kwankaso, he lamented rate of the unemployed youth in the state, noting that this had also worsened the situation facing the state.

He disclosed that in addition to the above factors, the high birth rate among common people as well as corruption in the society, among others, have caused an upsurge in the state.

To address these problems, he said the committee recommended, the resuscitatim of communal governance involving ward heads, district heads and community leaders to assist in achieving peace and identify foreigners in the state.

While receiving the report, Governor Kwankwaso assured that the report would be thoroughly and quickly studied with a view to implementing its recommendations.
