At least 12 mega and model primary schools constructed by the present administration have been completed and are ready for inauguration during the third anniversary of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Four of the mega schools are located in Akure, Ondo, Okitipupa and Ikare-Akoko, while eight model schools in Oka-Akoko, Ore, Ondo, Ile-Oluji, Araromi Obu, Idanre were constructed by the government to further bridge the gap between the rich and the poor in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Aderemi Olatubora and his counterpart in Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, disclosed this to newsmen in Akure, the state capital during the inspection of one of the model schools located in Oke-Ijebu in Akure.

Olatubora said the schools were constructed under the new policy of government to make public schools in the state attractive to pupils and also ensure that the children of the rich and those of the poor were given the same opportunities.

According to him, the Caring Heart primary school in Oke-Ijebu, Akure had 21 classes with each of them having capacity to accommodate 25 pupils with state of the art facilities.

The Commissioner explained that the schools would be admitting 25 pupils per class according to the standard set by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCO).

Olatubora said, “These schools have been built with modern touch, we have 21 classrooms in Oke-Ijebu with each of them expected to accommodate 25 pupils, the school has two sets of library, we have a conventional library and e-library, we have a standard office for the head teacher, all these are to make education sector in the state more attractive.

“Already the state government has acquired school uniforms, school bags and shoes to be distributed to the pupils freely by government as part of its social service and commitment to the development of education in the state”

He added that each of the classrooms had been equipped with modern equipment like electronic board, standard chairs and tables to make learning and teaching more conducive for the pupils and the teachers.

The Commissioner also said the state government had re-trained the teachers to be deployed to the schools, while government would ensure that the pupils that were relocated from the school for the construction would be given priority in admission.
