AN international Security Consultant and Head of Africans in the diaspora, Mr Steve Olu has risen stoutly in defence of the appointment of Mr Mohammed Dikko Abubakar as the new Inspector-General of Police(IGP).

Speaking with Sunday Tribune in Lokoja on Friday, he said the acting IGP remains the best man for the job".

According to him, the whole noise about M.D. Abubakar’s appointment, especially the one from a section of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) was uncalled for.

"As a security expert, I must congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for appointing M.D. Abubakar as the acting IGP. He is the best man for the job. At a time like this, what we really need is an operations man who has a track record. That is the man Nigeria is now lucky to have", he said.

Frowning at those he referred to as enemies of progress, Olu described the new Police Chief as one of the most dispassionate Nigerian he ever met. "M.D. Abubakar is a cool-headed, detribalised Nigerian who has more Christian friends than Muslims.

There is no doubt that he will do a good job in Louis Edet House to reposition the Police. Let us give him all the needed support. Let us pray for his success. Why would a man of God like Pastor Oritsejafor call for the sack of the new acting IGP based on mere hearsay? Highly revered personalities like the CAN President should weigh what he says,  especially if it borders on national security. M.D. Abubakar is not a religious bigot as being painted at all,”  Olu added.
