MINISTER of Niger-Delta, Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe on Friday night prayed fervently to God for the transformation of those behind the bombing of his palatial country home last Tuesday.

Elder Orubebe, who personally conducted a brief prayer session with sympathizers in his house at the riverine Ogbobagbene in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State prayed to God to forgive and transform the lives of the gunmen that invaded his country home.

The minister shocked the horde of sympathizers, both from his community and those from outside, when he walked up to the Alter in his church and prayed for the perpetrators of the heinous act instead of cursing them.

Elder Orubebe later told newsmen that he had no regrets interceding for the criminals, stressing that God enjoined him to love and always wish his enemies well “and so, there was no reason to do otherwise”.

Speaking against the backdrop of insinuation that the attackers were angry and hungry youths in search for money and food, he said that hunger was not enough reason to commit evil.

The minister also dispelled rumours that the bombers were sent by the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timpreye Sylva, noting that he was not in any way involved in his predicament or politics of the state.

“I am from Delta State. I play my politics in Delta State. So why should I involve myself in the politics of Bayelsa State? I don’t believe in rumours,” he said.

Sunday Tribune observed that yet to be identified gunmen who stormed the Minister’s country home could not blow up the front door with dynamites because it was bullet proof and had to split the kitchen door with explosives before gaining access into the house.

It was also observed that the hoodlums ransacked the house, including the minister’s bedroom, while bloodstains were seen on the floor in Elder Orubebe’s bedroom.
