The greatest need of mankind!(2)

Last week, I taught on two ways of tapping into the help of God — by acknowledging your helplessness and waiting only on God. This week, we will be studying other ways to connect to the help of God.

The first one is through prayers. Certain doors in life will never open to you, until you properly engage your communication link with God. This type of prayer for divine help is a two-dimensional approach—you pray for help for yourself and you pray for help for others. Prayer draws the hand of God into a situation. It is the link that connects man to God’s help.

You must pray for God’s help, if you really want it (Hebrews 4:16). A time came in the life of David when enemies were troubling the people of Israel. So, he prayed a prayer of enquiry, asking God if he should pursue the enemies. He sought God’s help by this type of prayer and got it. He chased the enemies and subdued them (1 Samuel 30:8). You call for your help in prayers, when you need it.

Another type of prayer is praying for others. This is seen in the life of a man called Job. He was tormented by the devil, and even his friends taunted him. Instead of getting angry at them, the Bible made it clear that he prayed for his friends, and his captivity was turned around (Job 42:10). When you invest into the lives of others in prayers, you are committing God to your help.

Apart from praying for others, you also pray for the expansion and promotion of God’s kingdom. As you pray promoting God’s kingdom, He continues to turn your captivity. Another way to connect to the help of God is by sowing seeds of mercy and help to others. God’s Word says: Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy (Matthew 5:7). When you help others, you commit God to your help. When you are avilable to help others, you have committed God to send help in the time of your needs.

Friend, the grace for helping others is available, if you are connected to God. You get connected by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. You can do so now, as you say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
