A group of medical practitioners of Osun State origin based in the United States have concluded arrangements to partner with Osun State government to set up a $100 million modern medical village in the state.

The medical practitioners led by Dr. Sunday Ogunwuyi, a Consultant Diagnostic Pathologist based in Maryland, USA, informed the state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on Friday in Atlanta city, that the project as conceived when completed, would  take care of all medical conditions at home, thus making foreign medical care unattractive to Nigerians.

The medical village, according to him, would gulp over $100 million but the government would be required to be minimally involved in the provision of adequate land and other amenities in  the area that would host the project.

Part of the components of the project, he said, are a 200-bed reference hospital for clinical trials, a dialysis centre, molecular pathology institute, medical mart  as well as a telemedicine centre among several others.

Dr. Ogunwuyi, who was accompanied by other members of the group, told the governor that they were impressed by the commitment of the governor to the development of the state hence their decision to contribute their own quota and engage the government on the basis of Public- Private Partnership in setting up the medical village.

Governor Oyinlola, who said he was impressed by the idea, lauded the patriotic zeal of the medical practitioners and urged other indigenes of the state abroad to also join in the development of their fatherland.

He promised to ensure the realisation of the medical village dream but asked for time to consult relevant organs of the government on the project for its effective take off and implementation.
