ShareAs the nation continues to  look  for solution to the problem of mass failure of candidates in public examinations, the Emir of Minna in Niger State, Dr Umar Farouq Bahago, has blamed the trend on addiction of Nigerian youth on the English premier league and other football leagues around the world.

Dr Bahago’s observation came as the Niger State government ruled that it would no longer sponsor candidates that fail its mock examination for the West African Examination Council and the National Examination Council.

The monarch noted the attachment of students to the European league at the expense of their studies, adding that those not involved were either concentrating on hip hop music or other unnecessary things.

The Emir, who spoke at the Annual General Meeting of the Minna Emirate Education Foundation, also blamed parents for their failure to monitor the educational pursuits of their children, saying that things of the world had taken over the attention of parents.

He said that for the education sector of the country to be revived, all stakeholders must rise to check the current downward trend, warning that if this is not done, the future of the country could be in jeopardy.

Niger State Governor, Dr Muazu Aliyu, who had persistently expressed his concern over the poor performance of candidates in public examinations,  reeled out series of policies that the government had put in place to correct the downward trend. Share
