AFTER several months of face off between the government of Oyo State and its Osun State counterpart over the desire by the Oyo State Government to assume total ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Science and Technology, it has been revealed that the dream of the Oyo State government would come to fruition on December 31, 2010.

This revelation was contained in a release signed by the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on public communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

The Oyo State government’s position came less than 24 hours after the National University Commission (NUC) announced the temporary takeover of the administration of the troubled institution for three months during which the assets and liabilities of the institution would be shared.

According to the release, “ Oyo State is delighted at the outcome of the management with NUC which agreed to run LAUTECH through a neutral arbiter for three months.”

The release stated further that “while we regret that both states could not agree on an acceptable way to part ways and had to resort to the NUC, we have always suggested the appointment of an objective arbitrator who will decide on an otherwise very clear case within the shortest possible period. This development is therefore very acceptable to Oyo State and her people”.

The Oyo State government in the release declared that “it should also be noted that the Teaching Hospitals’ Management at Osogbo stands suspended, just as the LAUTECH Board in Ogbomoso and since the NUC has agreed on asset sharing, the university would assume the desired status by December 31, 2010.”
