The  chairmen of  the 20 local government areas and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen in the councils, on Friday, adopted the candidature of  the State Governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, as the PDP senatorial candidate to represent Ogun East in the next elections.

The chieftains of the party had earlier in the day purchased expression of interest form for the governor, before storming his Sagamu residence to deliver the form.

The form, which was bought at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, Sunday Tribune authoritatively gathered, cost N2.5million .

The political stalwarts explained that the outstanding quality leadership displayed in the almost eight years reign of the governor was the basis for their action.

The Chairman, Association of Local Governments (ALGON) in Ogun State, Mr John Obafemi, who addressed the crowd that stormed Asoludero Court residence of the governor, said that all they requested from the governor was just for him to say “thank you.”

The form was presented to the chairman of the party in Sagamu Local Government, Mr. Ade Adesanya, by  Mr Obafemi and the State Secretary of the PDP, Chief Pegba Otemolu at the party secretariat.

Obafemi, while addressing the crowd, said that Governor Daniel had brought about a tremendous change to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

“You have succeeded in transforming the whole state within your first term in office and you have only been consolidating on the gains of the first four years in this second term. For someone who has done so well, we have no hesitation to conclude among ourselves that your experience and expertise will be needed in Abuja.

“You have created a problem for us in this state, in terms of succession because I wonder who would be able to succeed you and fill your shoes by matching your achievements,“ he said.

The Chairman of Ogun State PDP Local Governments, Mr. Wole Otenaike, said that the party in 1999 was in shambles, asserting that the advent of the governor brought the party back on track.
