Soboma: Victim of politics —Mulade

Share

AN Environment activist in the Niger Delta, Mr.Sheriff Mulade, has expressed fear that the killing of former militant leader, Soboma George, in Port Harcourt, last week, might be a part of political calculations towards the 2011 general elections.

He said the security agencies should therefore look beyond the "cult rivalry" to unravel the gruesome murder of the ex-militant leader.

Speaking with reporters in Warri, Mr. Mulade noted that Soboma could indeed be the first victim of a ‘do-or-die’ politics that could play out in the region next year.

He expressed concerns that top politicians in the region were planning to use some of the former warlords to rig the 2011 polls, adding that security agents must rise to the threat.

“I have said it before that these former militant leaders must be very vigilant because, having being used by politicians before, they can be used again to scuttle the wishes of the people next year. That is why I am saying they should watch out and not be agents of destruction,” he stressed.
