Gas leakage threatens Delta/Edo communities

Share

The people of Ovade/Ologbo, border communities between Delta and Edo States are now facing a likely catastrophe following the vandalism, on Saturday, of a gas pipeline managed by the Pan Ocean Company in the area.

Besides, indigenes of the community have accused the company of insensitivity to their plight as a result of the gas leakage.

The Edo State representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Donald Omorodion, who was at the site at about 4 p.m. on Saturday, raised the alarm over the looming environmental disaster in the area and urged the management of Pan Ocean to stop the leakage immediately.

“It is a serious issue because of the environmental disaster which it is already causing in the area. I have visited the place but I am shocked that Pan Ocean is yet to stop the leakage. I have appealed to them to do everything necessary to stop the leakage to protect the health of the people of the area. It is a sad situation but we are watching,” Omorodion said.
