A 30-year-old mother  of two, Mrs Rukayat Alalade, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for killing her stepson, 11-year-old Qudus, by macheting him to death in Kosobo area of Oyo town.

Information gathered revealed that the suspect, whose husband, Mr. Lukman Alalade, married after he and his first wife separated, had always haboured ill-feelings for her two stepchildren.

She was reported to have once told her husband that she could kill any of them, a statement which was said to have worried the husband.

His fears were said to have been assuaged by his family members when he opened up to them on the troubling statement, as they assured him that his wife would not do such a thing since she had her own children.

The suspect had reportedly carried out the act in the evening of Tuesday  14 February, a day set aside for lovers worldwide, after Qudus returned from an errand on which his stepmother sent him.

Angry that the boy was late in coming from where she sent him to buy kerosene, the suspect reportedly descended on him, macheted him on the head and hand until he gave up the ghost.

After committing the dastartdy act, she  allegedly dragged the remains of the boy to the backyard of the family’s uncompleted building and hid the cutlass under the bed.

Her deed was, however, blown open when the husband came back and could not see his son.

Though the suspect initially denied knowing of the deceased’s whereabouts,  a trail of his blood was followed to where his body was eventually discovered at the backyard.

It was then that bloodstains were noticed on the woman’s cloth, while the cutlass was found under the bed in the couple’s room.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the boy’s father brought him from Lagos State where he was living with his mother, about two months ago, to come and  attend Quranic school in Oyo.

The deceased’s mother was reported to have remarried, while the second child of her union with her former husband had been staying with a relation in Lagos.

The suspect was reported to have been arrested by policemen from Durbar Police Station, from where her case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku for further investigations.
