Depend on the Holy Spirit: He will help you
WHAT are you doing this New Year? Are you going to just enjoy yourself or you are going to make sure you do something tangible for the kingdom of God? You don’t know what to do? How about sharing the gospel in this season when we are celebrating the New Year? However, to do so effectively, you have to depend on the Holy Spirit if you will win them to Christ. If you depend on the Holy Spirit, He will put words in your mouth and inspire what you say. Your words may be very simple and plain but they will be powerful and penetrating. The Holy Spirit will use them to hit home the right point on the hearts of your hearers and they will be saved. Moreover, God will confirm those words with signs and wonders following. If therefore you want to be fruitful this period in winning souls for Christ, you must depend on the Holy Spirit to speak through you.
How do you get so connected with the Holy Spirit that He now speaks through your lips?
1. You must be truly born again, having repented of your sins, having received Christ Jesus into your heart as Saviour and Lord (John 14:15-17).
2. You must be baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in another tongue. This is a gift of God that you receive subsequent to salvation. It is a distinct spiritual experience from salvation as it is the Holy Spirit that endues you with power. And you need it (Acts 2:1-4).
3. You must be living a holy life - shunning all iniquities and walking in the fear of God. The Holy Spirit is holy, and the two of you cannot work together except you are in agreement (Amos 3:3).
4. You must be obedient to the Lord, in every area of your life. Prompt obedience to all the instructions of the Lord (Acts 5:32).
5. You must be committed to the preaching of the gospel of Christ. If God will use your lips to tell the lost about His love, you must be willing to speak to them about His love for them (Acts 1:8).
6. You must study the word of God daily, making a deposit inside you which the Holy Spirit will draw from, at the right time (Joshua 1:8).
7. You must give yourself to prayer - praying in the Spirit and praying with understanding - praying for the souls that you want to reach that the Holy Spirit may speak to them through you (Acts 6:4).
If you are committed to these, you will see God and the Holy Spirit working mightily through you to win the lost for Christ.
