Again, Ogun Police uncover ritualists’ den

Share

THE determination of the Ogun State Police Command to rid the state of criminals has again led to the discovery of a ritualists’ den in the sleepy village of Iganke, a border town between Ogun and Lagos State.

It would be recalled that a similar ritualists’ den was uncovered in Ogijo area of the state a few months ago, which led to the arrest of some people suspected to be ritualists.

The location of the shrine suggested that nefarious activities were being perpetrated by the suspects as the den was in a dense forest and was called Ajaile which means underground tunnel.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, who led a detachment of policemen and journalists to the scene, was amazed at the objects seen at the shrine. Items found at the shrine included charms and other scary objects.

Okoye told newsmen that his men uncovered the shrine when some people suspected to be ritualists were arrested in Abeokuta. The Police boss attributed the breakthrough to the cooperation of, and collaboration with various communities.

He said: “One of them tried to dupe someone of a huge amount of money but through intelligence gathering, we got to hear about it. We immediately swung into action and we were able to arrest two members of the syndicate, who, in turn, brought us to this place (the shrine) where they do all sorts of things such as rituals and fraud.
“Our investigation department is working tirelessly to know more about the activities of these people and to take necessary actions.”

He warned criminals to stay away from the state, adding that those arrested would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter is concluded.

He charged members of the public to always avail the Command of useful information on the activities of any member of the public or group of people suspected to be engaging in criminal acts.

“I can assure you that the identity of anyone who volunteer information that will help us uncover men of the underworld will be highly shielded,” the Police boss said.
