INDICATIONS emerged yesterday that ex-international Stephen Keshi may be relieved of his present position as the Super Eagles head coach whether the team qualifies for the 2014 World Cup or not.

Saturday Tribunesports gathered from competent sources close to the Presidency that the chances of Keshi remaining as the head of the Eagles technical crew is very slim considering moves by some football stakeholders to ensure that a foreigner is hired to tinker the team.

It was gathered that the influential figures met and discussed about the possibility of securing the services of an expatriate coach to head the coaching crew of the national team in the first quarter of next year at the earliest.

The move, Saturday Tribunesports learnt, is not unknown to the National Sports Commission (NSC) which is the highest ruling body on sports matters in the country. Ditto, sources revealed that the NFF bigwigs are also aware of this plan.

A source in the ministry who lends credence to the plan disclosed that the former Super Eagles skipper could be asked to relinquish his position as the team's head coach whether the team qualifies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup or not.

However, Keshi's future with the team would be determined by the outcome of the Eagles' campaign in the Nations Cup if he eventually succeeds in qualifying Nigeria for the African showpiece to be staged in South Africa.

According to his terms of contract with the his employeers,  he is mandated to lead the Nigerian team to the semi finals of the African version of the mundial.

''Some top football goons seem to have lost confidence in Keshi and they have opened talks on the possibility of hiring a foreign technical adviser to boss him even if he succeeds in picking the 2014 World Cup.

And to keen soccer followers, the body language of both the Sports Ministry and the NFF of recent seems to point that Keshi seems unwanted, particular since the Eagles last outing against Liberia where the team picked a draw in the Africa Nations qualifier.
