FORMER Nigerian international, Adokiye Amiesimaka insists that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) erred in sacking former head coach, Samson Siasia.

Siasia was sacked on October 28, 2011 after failing to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations  but Amiesimaka is adamant Siasia should have been given more time at the helm.

“Siasia is one of the best coaches Nigeria has ever had, local or foreign. I was privileged to have played under foreign and local coaches so I know what I am talking about,” Amiesimaka told SuperSport.com.

Amiesimaka, who was part of the Nigeria's team that won the 1980 Afcon, said Siasia’s track record as a coach is impressive.

“He led our team to the final of the Olympic football tournament in 2000. The only other person to achieve that feat was a Dutchman (Johannes Bonfrere) and Nigeria has had over 20 foreign coaches since independence in 1960.

Amiesimaka also takes time to review the circumstances leading to the sacking of Siasia stating that the 45-year-old was given the task of performing "an impossible job."
