NFF, NPL Throw League Into Confusion

Share

The Disciplinary and Organnising Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the board of the Nigeria Premier League met during the week and took decisions that might prolong the 2011/12  season.

The O and D headed by Leye Adepoju appears confused going by its decision on matches involving  Warri Wolves and Rising Stars and Wolves against Enyimba.

The committee awarded three points and three goals to Enyimba despite the fact that its match against Wolves which the Warri based side won by 1-0 had been concluded before some fans of the home team attacked Enyimba.

However, the committee ordered a replay in Abuja of the tie between Wolves and Rising Stars which was inconclusive after a Wolves fan encroached the pitch and beat up a Rising Stars striker, Segun Bajowa with scores standing at 1-1.

On its own, the board of the NPL  decided that Week 37 matches be played on Wednesday, same day the Nigeria's Super Eagles, featuring key players of some clubs will face Niger in a friendly in Niamey

It will be noted that the NFF shifted the semi final matches of the Federation Cup from August 15 following complaints by the clubs which havetheir key players in the national team, but the NPL's decision to schedule Week 37 matches for the same August 15 is already creating ripples.
