Nigeria To Host Youth Athletics Tourney

NIGERIA has been selected as the host of the first ever Africa Youth Athletics championships ahead of South Africa and Ethiopia.

In the bidding presentations presented by NILAYO Sports management led by its CEO, Bukola Olopade on behalf of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Thursday in cotonou, Republic of Benin, Warri, Delta State beat two other countries that bidded to host the under 13 Youth Athletics championships.

Saturday Tribunesports was informed yesterday that after the presentations by the three countries, the CAA congress which met during the Africa Athletic championship agreed that Warri, Delta has all it takes to host the championship going by the presentation.

In a telephone chat with Saturday Tribunesports from Cotonou; Olopade; a former commissioner for sports, Ogun State said he was delighted that the country got the hosting rights ahead of arch rival South Africa and assured that the championship will live up to its billings.

Solomon Ogba;  president, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) while reacting to the development having commended the management of Nilayo Sports Management for getting the hosting rights, promised that his federation will ensure that the championship is of world class.

“We are delighted to have won the hosting rights of the maiden edition of Africa Youth Athletic championship and are optimistic that Warri, Delta State will organise a world class championship.

The championships holds next year at a yet to be fixed date”, he said.
