Soldiers numbering about five saved the life of the member representing Maru/ Bungudu Federal Constituency of Zamfara State in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ibrahim Ruwan Doruwa, from a mob attack when some youths stormed the venue he was to deliver a goodwill message and insisted he should leave the rostrum or be dealt with.

The drama started when the state secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Salisu Isa Dangulbi invited the lawmaker to address the audience during the swearing-in ceremony of the vice chairman and councilors of Maru Local Government Area on Thursday.

As soon as the lawmaker mounted the rostrum to address the gathering, irate youths stormed the place, collected the microphone from him and told him to leave as, according to them, the lawmaker was not useful to his constituency.

Efforts by the ANPP secretary to pacify the youths proved abortive as close aides of the lawmaker sneaked out of the venue after sensing that the situation was becoming tensed and came back with armed soldiers, who dispersed the youths and whisked the lawmaker away in a

vehicle to Gusau.

Speaking in an interview at his residence in Gusau, the lawmaker said he did not want to join issues with anybody, saying before he came to Maru, he was in Bungudu and he was welcomed by the people of the area.

According to him, ‘if one out of the 21 wards under my constituency behaves in this unfortunate manner, I am not bothered. All I would say is that I still enjoy popular support from my people. This is my third term in the House and if I am not useful to them, my party (ANPP) would not given me the ticket,” he said.
