PDP Slams ACN Over Lagos Flood, Says Over N7 Trn Wasted In 13 Years
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West has described the flood presently ravaging Lagos State as part of the evidence of 13 years of failure of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to utilise judiciously the huge resources available to the state.
The party said it was sad and ridiculous that a state where government (both state and local councils) get over N50 billion as income monthly cannot prevent the people from being killed by flood; saying; “over N7 trillion had been wasted in the state in the last 13 years!”
In a release issued by the zonal publicity secretary of the PDP, Hon Kayode Babade, who sympathised with Lagosians for the loss of lives, and properties occassioned by the flood, said; “the harrowing experience of Thursday is enough pointer to the fact that Lagosians have been duped in the last 13 years and ACN, the party of dupes should be rejected during the next general election.”
The party said it was time Lagosians began to ask questions as to what the ACN and Governor Babatunde Fashola have done with the Lagos State money, especially the N23 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the several billions of naira frittered away by both Bola Tinubu and Fashola over the years.
“The fact is that after the country, Lagos is the number two richest state in Africa. In the last five years, between the state and the local councils, not less than N50 billion is realised in a month, making N600 billion annually. Yet, nothing is being done with the huge resources available to the state.
“From what happened in Lagos on Thursday, it is obvious that the ACN government did not do anything to alleviate the sufferings of Lagosians since 1999 that they have been ruling the state.
“Instead of using the several billions of naira that Lagos State gets from the federation account and IGR to develop the state, they have been using the funds to prosecute elections and electoral cases in other states in Nigeria and countries in Africa.
“Part of the resultant effects of this glaring failure of governance and wastage of Lagos State funds on political expansionist agenda of a single individual is the flood that ravaged the entire state on Thursday, and it is obvious that nothing will be done to prevent its re-occurence by this ACN government.
“Therefore, Lagosians should begin to look beyond the rhetoric of ‘Lagos is working’ and begin to ask questions as to what the N23 billion the ACN collects from them monthly is spent on. Else, Lagosians will continue to suffer in the midst of plenty, while these ACN political dupes continue to waste the state’s huge resources on elections and election cases,” Babade said.Share
