Senate Invites Minister Over Alledged Unguarded Statement

Share

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe  on Friday summoned the Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. Labaran Maku, over what he said is based on national issues.

The invitation, it was gathered,  may not be unconnected with the  Senate  resolutions on the N5000 notes on Tuesday, which it was learnt infuriated the Upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekeremadu who presided over the Senate meeting on Thursday  said: “The response of the  Minister of Information on our resolutions concerning the N5000 notes is that our resolutions are not binding.  I don’t think that we need  the Minister of Information or any other minister to tell us that our resolutions are not binding, just as we don’t need to remind him that he was not elected.”

However, Abaribe, in a signed letter of invitation, said: “You are hereby invited to a meeting with the Committee on national issue. The meeting, which is scheduled for next week Tuesday will hold in room 221, new Senate Wing, NASS complex. The utterance from the Minister is seen as embarrassing for the elected lawmakers, representing over 109 Senatorial District.”
