The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, on Friday, said critics of governments have been proved wrong by revelations from the ongoing national good governance projects’ tour which commenced on Thursday in Abuja.

The comment by the minister came as he said that the government must summon the political will to enforce proper use of infrastructure.

“For those who say we are not working, you have seen we are working,” said Mr. Maku during the inspection of Outer Northern Expressway (Lot 1) project in Abuja.

It was awarded on May 7, 2009 at a contract sum of N66,830,910,468. 75 to M/S Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company (Nig) Ltd with amount still required to complete the project put at N11,291,605, 952. 40

Management’s delay in taking decision on railway crossing bridges at CH10+205 and inadequate funding were given as constraints to completion of the project which was 87 percent completed and scheduled to be completed in 2013.

Maku described another project, construction of tanks 1 and 6 and associated trunk mains as key to the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.

He disclosed that the project, targeted to be delivered next year, was to deliver additional 80 million litres to Abuja residents upon completion.

Speaking during inspection of work on Maitama Extension District, Mr. Maku challenged Nigerian engineers to deliver quality work as an indigenous contractor was engaged by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) administration for the project.

He said, “Giving an indigenous contractor this project is a challenge to Nigerian engineers. So, do everything possible to deliver quality jobs.”

President Goodluck Jonathan had approved the tour to showcase efforts by the three tiers of government at delivering dividends to the citizens.

The tour, which commenced with the North Central Zone and Abuja in particular on Thursday, is to take the assessment team round the country for a first-hand information on the achievements made so far by governments.

Some of the projects inspected by the team on Thursday included the Abuja rail transit project, phase one; Nigeria SAT 2 and Nigeria SAT X complex and the Airport expressway lots one and two.
