Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, has warned directors and chief executive officers of parastatals of the ministry that the era of sluggishness, making excuses, or passing the buck was over as the ministry moves to deliver on its mandate.

“There is no more business as usual,” the minister told them at the signing of performance agreement held at the minister’s conference room.

He directed that all matters coming from the agencies must be attended to and disposed off within a maximum of two weeks from the date of receipt of such matters, as all unnecessary bottlenecks must be eliminated.

He noted that the ceremony was for the directors and chief executive officers to sign their own non-negotiable performance agreement with the leadership of the ministry by which they will be held accountable for the period of January through December, 2012.

Reminding them that President Goodluck Jonathan regarded the transformation agenda as a social contract with Nigerians, which he was fully committed to actualizing, he noted that each department and agency must demonstrate the same commitment.

Senator Umar informed them that the performance agreement he signed with the president covered resuscitation and revitalization of the railway system for the haulage of goods and carriages of passengers; repositioning of the port system in line with global best practices and increasing use of inland waterways to stimulate economic activities.
