Oranmiyan : YCE Pacifies Alaafin, Ooni

Share

the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has waded into the controversy between the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, over the celebration of the Oranmiyan Festival by the Alaafin, last Saturday.

The YCE, at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Ibadan, Oyo State, said it was not healthy for the two foremost traditional rulers in Yorubaland to be in discord.

The festival being packaged by the Alaafin had generated arguments among segments of the Yoruba community, including the Ooni, who argued that it was not historically expedient for the former to exclusively package the festival in the name of “Oranmiyan,” who, he said, was identified with Ife more than Oyo while alive.
