The Federal Government said on Friday that it would soon come out with the total amount it had, so far recovered from indicted oil marketers.

The government had paid a total of N1.3trillion to fuel marketers as subsidy last year while some marketers, who were indicted by House of Representatives probe panel headed by embattled Hon. Farouk Lawan and another panel set up by the Federal Government, collected the fund but could not show evidence of lifting or delivering the product.

The government, on Thursday, disclosed that the affected marketers had started refunding to it, but did not disclose the amount so far recovered and the marketers involved.

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State made the disclosure, while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, which was presided over by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

Findings by Saturday Tribune confirmed that the government had indeed taken steps to recover the money from the affected marketers with the steps said to be yielding fruits as several billions of naira was said to have been recovered so far.

Checks at the Federal Ministry of Finance also corroborated this but could not give the figure so far recovered.

Speaking with our correspondent, Mr. Paul Nwabuiku, Special Adviser Media to Minister of Finance, said the total amount recovered from the marketers was still being compiled and would be made public soon.

Nwabuiku, who spoke on phone, said:“The total compilation is still under compilation. It will be made public when we finish.”
