The Police in  Niger State has assured that it is battle ready to ensure protection of lives and property of the citizens  in the state throughout   the Eid–El-Fitr  and Durbar celebrations by Muslim adherents to  mark the  end of  Ramadan.

It gave the assurance   while speaking through the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Desire D. Nsirim, on Friday   in Minna, stating that the command was fully prepared with a robust surveillance  patrols of the  nooks and crannies of the state, including worship centres during the  Sallah celebrations.

“In fact, I am fully  prepared; I   have had a lecture with the management staff and meetings  with all my men to ensure  robust patrols during the Eid-El Fitr celebrations and the Durbar displays the following  day. We have also issued a press release at the command for communities to control their youths and disuade them from anti-social behaviours.

The police boss reiterated that anyone caught causing a breach of  the public peace will be dealt with, even as he congratulated people of the state on the Eid-El-Fitr  celebrations.

Meanwhile in Kaduna, security has been beefed up ahead Sallah celebration, as armed soldiers and mobile policemen were seen in strategic locations keeping vigil.

The number of check- points along major roads in the state capital has increased as soldiers subject vehicles, especially those with tinted glasses, to thorough scrutiny.

Commercial motorcyclists had to disembark at a distance before the check-points, even as the security agents frown on defaulters.

At Rabah Road Junction near the Sultan Bello Mosque, Armoured Personnel Carriers were stationed at both ends of the mosque and there was  a traffic snarl as vehicles had to pass through special devices placed on the major road by the soldiers to ensure people’s safety.

The open field near the Sultan Bello Mosque opposite Arewa House serves as praying ground where Muslims converged in their hundreds every Sallah day.

However, the city was calm as people were seen rushing to markets to buy chickens and other essentials for the celebration.

In a related development, the Kano State police command, in its efforts to ensure safety of lives and property during the Sallah celebrations, has given out security tips to the public on how to ensure a crime-free Eid-el-Fitr, saying people should go to the prayer ground with only their mats.

It is recalled that the Emirate Council has ruled out any activities to mark the end of Ramadan due to the ill-health of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

The police image-maker, DSP Mohammed Dutse, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, also  warned motorists against reckless and dangerous driving, and the need to obey traffic rules.

The statement also advised parents not to allow their underaged and unlicensed children have access to their vehicles.

Dutse advised parents to ensure that their wards are accompanied by elderly persons before, during and after the celebrations, so as to avoid cases of missing persons, which is rampant during such celebrations.
