The Nasarawa State Police command have apprehended four nomads in possession of sophisticated arms and ammunition.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Michael Ada, who confirmed the arrest to Saturday Tribune on phone in Lafia, the state capital on Friday, said items recovered from them were a PMSG sub-machine gun, one locally made automatic riffle and nine rounds of live ammunition.

He explained that two of the suspects, Usman Adamu and Ali Bamaiye, both of Kwala village in Quanpan Local Government Area of Plateau State were intercepted and arrested in Lafia by detectives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) following suspicious behaviour exhibited by the suspects.

The PPRO stressed that the suspects, during the interrogation, made useful information, which led to the arrest of two other culprits, Tukur Usman and Hamza Tukur, from Gada-Gwari village in Kuje area council of the Federal Capital erritory (FCT).

“The suspects confessed to possessing two riffles, which they buried in a farm located at the boundary between Nasarawa and Plateau states respectively.

“Based on the confessional statement, the Police followed them to the location and recovered the weapons.

“The suspects were being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation to ascertain the source of the weapons and other possible accomplices,” DSP Ada explained.

He, therefore, admonished the citizenry to be vigilant at all time and keep the police abreast of unusual or suspicious movement in their respective domains with a view to making the entire state a crime-free society.
