Robbers Kill 2 Policemen

Share

TWO policemen were killed on Friday by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers  around Cele Bus Stop, along Apapa Oshodi Expressway.

The deceased policemen and two others  were, until the ill-fated incident, attached to Ilasamaja Police Station and were on the trail of the suspected armed robbers, when the incident  happened.

One of the policemen identified simply as Ojo, an indigene of Ekiti State and three others, had engaged a gang of armed robbers in a gun duel that lasted for over thirty minutes.

Saturday Tribune gathered that the  policemen, who were standing  in front of Ilasamaja  police station, had sighted an unmarked saloon car and were tracing the car when the armed robbers suddenly stopped.

The robbers were driving towards Cele Bus Stop when they reportedly discovered the van trailing them before halting their vehicle to confront the policemen.

The robbers  parked their vehicle before Cele Bus Stop and waited for the policemen to get closer  before opening fire on the police van, killing the two policemen at the back cabin of the vehicle.

A fierce gun duel ensued between the policemen and the armed robbers  before two of the policemen escaped from the scene of the incident.

Saturday Tribune gathered that even after the two policemen escaped, the armed robbers continued to shoot at the abandoned vehicle  and in the process riddled it with bullets.

When contacted , the image  maker in charge of the state police command, Ngozi  Braide, claimed not to have been briefed  by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ilasamaja police station.
