Reinstated Council Chairmen: Presidency Asks Okorocha To Obey Court Order

Share

THE presidency, on Friday, asked Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State to respect a court  judgment which reinstated the 27 local government chairmen sacked by him.

The Court of Appeal, Owerri Division, had in a ruling reinstated the council chairmen.

They were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the administration of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim.

But reports from the state indicated that the chairmen had been prevented from having access to their offices.

Speaking on the development,  Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, condemned the act of disallowing the chairmen from resuming duties and asked the governor to respect the law.

He insisted that the third tier of government in the state must be allowed to work independently.

“I condemn what the governor has done. He must respect the court judgment and reinstate the council chairmen and they must operate independently,” he said.
