Labour Party in Plateau State has debunked the insinuation that some of its  stalwarts  have  commenced discussion with the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the possibility of returning to the party.

It is recalled that shortly before the 2011 general elections, some notable members of the PDP in the state, former Governor Joshua Dariye and  former deputy governor, Mrs. Pauline Tallen among others  defected to the Labour Party(LP) to challenge the incumbent Governor Jonah Jang  during the governorship  election.

Speaking with Saturday  Tribune, the Publicity Secretary of Labour Party in Plateau State,  Mr. Slyvanus Namang said the calibre of those who left the PDP for LP  were forces to reckon with in   Plateau State  and Nigeria’s politics. He added that  they are seasoned politicians capable of  winning elections using any political platform.

“Going back to PDP is not the issue and we have no plan to return to PDP, the like of former Governor Joshua Dariye, Mrs. Pauline Tallen and others  have no need of  joining  PDP to win elections in Plateau State,” he said

He  added  that the statement credited to Governor Jonah Jang during his visit to the National Secretariat of the PDP on Tuesday  that defectors should not be allowed to return to the party was unfortunate.

“Governor Jang is a great beneficiary of anti-party activities. When he lost the gubernatorial primary election in 1999, he directed his supporters to vote for ANPP. In 2003, he decamped to ANPP and returned to PDP during emergency rule and was received at Plateau Hotel, ” he said.

According to him, the people the governor was referring to were co-founders of PDP like him and contributed immensely to the growth of the party before they left; they remain  an asset to the state and therefore need no formalty to return to their home.
