THE Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State wing, has expressed concern  over the disturbing news of the sack of workers, especially teachers in the state on the account of the purported recommendations of Captain Consulting employed by the immediate past administration of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala for staff audit in the state public service and who alleged falsification of age, certificates and ghost workership, among workers.

In a press release made available to Saturday Tribune, the union said it was not averse to all efforts of the present administration in the state to cleanse the state public service, adding that it has appealed to the state government to treat every matter connected on its merit by setting up a sectoral inter-ministerial committee including NUT leadership to accept claims of objection from teachers who have clear proof of innocence  against respective allegations and the attendant sack by government.

This advice, if allowed, the union said, would to a large extent, exonerate government against the raging allegation of high-handedness and vindictiveness, adding that it will also save government of possible attendant legal embarrassment that may arise from wrongful dismissal of workers.

“However, in strict compliance with the directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Oyo State Council to all its affiliates in the state public service at the end of its emergency meeting of June 28, I am to direct all teachers affected by the letters of dismissal currently being distributed to workers in the state to please report their evidential proof of innocence to the leadership of NUT in their respective local branches who will, in turn, collate all complaints and forward same to the state leadership for further actions with the state government.

“I am to urge all concerned to treat this directive with due sense of responsibility and the urgency it deserves.

“While urging prompt response, I should thank all affected teachers in anticipation to strict compliance with this directive,” the statement read.
