Oyo NURTW Boss Arrests Six Over Alleged Extortion
SIX illegal fee collectors were on Friday arrested in Ibadan during a surveillance mounted by the chairman of the caretaker committee of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde.
Oyerinde with some committee members had visited some motor parks in the city to monitor the level of compliance with his order stopping illegal fee collection.
Speaking after his visits to parks in areas like Orita Aperin, Olorunsogo, Oniyanrin, Mokola and UI, the chairman restated his warning against extortion of commercial motorists and motorcyclists.
According to him, the committee would not relent in its effort to sanitise the union, as anyone found engaging in such illegality would be sanctioned.
Alhaji Oyerinde warned members of the union to refrain from violence, stressing that anyone caught threatening the public peace would not be spared.
