Jonathan Mourns Olusola
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has extolled the virtues of late Ambassador Olusegun Olusola, saying that his commitment to the promotion of excellence in the arts and culture sector, broadcasting and public service, were worthy of emulation.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President, Dr. Reuben Abati, in Abuja, on Friday, noted that the president, who remembered how Ambassador Olusola’s popular television drama series, “The Village Headmaster,” thrilled television viewers for decades, commended the selflessness and professionalism he demonstrated in broadcasting and all his other ventures, including his frontline role as a member of the Iperu Remo Community in Ogun State.

He acknowledged Chief Olusola’s distinguished role as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, as well as his promotion of peace in Africa under the auspices of the African Refugees Foundation (AREF), which he founded.

Furthermore, the president noted that Ambassador Olusola’s dedication to selfless service and peace-loving nature, even at an advanced age, would surely be missed.

While commiserating with members of the Olusola family, President Jonathan enjoined them to take solace in the fact that the eminent ambassador lived a fulfilled, memorable and exemplary life and prayed God Almighty to grant the soul of the deceased a peaceful rest.

... Amosun Too
Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has regretted the death of foremost Nigerian broadcaster, theatre artiste and  diplomat, Ambassador Olusegun Olusola.

The governor commiserated with President Goodluck Jonathan over the death of the ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Ethiopia and also offered his condolences to the  people of Ogun State, where the  renowned television producer hailed from.

In a press release signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mrs Funmi Wakama, Senator Amosun described Olusola as “a thorough-bred professional, consummate administrator and humanist extraordinaire, who  distinguished himself in public life.”

He recalled that Olusola created the popular television drama series, The Village Headmaster, which has remained a reference point for generations and a source of inspiration to thousands of young artistes.

“His service to humanity through the African Refugee Foundation (AREF), which he founded, brought succour and hope to many African refugees. He will be sorely missed,” Governor Amosun said.

He prayed God to grant  the  family of the deceased and the arts community the fortitude to bear the loss.

Cultural Icon — Fashola
Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has joined other eminent Nigerians to mourn the passage of one of the country’s literary icons and cultural ambassadors, Chief Olusegun Olusola.

In a condolence message to the family of the deceased, signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, Fashola regretted that the death of the founder of the epic national television series, The Village Headmaster, has robbed the country of the ace broadcaster whom, he described, as one of the country’s finest models in broadcasting, culture, the arts and diplomacy.

Fashola noted among the major contributions of Olusola, his founding of the African Refugees Foundation (AREF) which, he said, contributed to solving the problems of refugees and internally displaced persons. He added that Chief  Olusola’s constant admonition that situations that create refugees or internally displaced persons must be avoided should be hearkened to by all at this time in the country.

He noted that the passage of the icon would create a big vacuum in the broadcast and cultural space of the country and challenges the youths of the country to be inspired by his life to always “aspire to be the very best in their callings,” the same way Ambassador Olusola and his generation excelled in their chosen professions.

He prayed God to grant the soul of the diplomat eternal repose.

A Worthy In-Law — Uduaghan
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, on Friday,  also condoled with the family of Olusola over the death of their father and elder statesman, Ambassador Segun Olusola.

In a condolence statement issued on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sunny Ogefere, the governor described the late ambassador as a great Nigerian, who bestrode the nation’s landscape and left indelible marks in different sectors.

Governor Uduaghan said that Olusola was a man of many parts, a jack of all trade and master of all, who would be missed by Nigerians and Deltans in particular, having married from Delta State.

“Pa Olusola was a towering figure in the Nigerian theatre and drama space, a pioneering and renowned broadcaster, a lover and promoter of arts and culture, an accomplished diplomat, a lover and crusader for the rights of African refugees to a decent life, among others,” he said.

The governor urged the family to take solace in the fact that the late ambassador lived a fulfilled life that everyone was proud of.

He also prayed God Almighty to grant his soul eternal rest.

We’ve Lost Committed Patriot —Daniel
With the death of Chief Segun Olusola, Nigeria has lost a committed patriot who spent his entire life in the service of the country.

Former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, stated this in Sagamu, Ogun State, through his Media Assistance, Adegbenro Adebanjo, while reacting to the death of the country’s former ambassador to Ethiopia. Daniel described him as a leading promoter of culture who was also deeply involved in conflict resolution and peace-building in Nigeria and across the African continent.

He said the departed elder statesman was a man of many parts who contributed immensely to the development of television, culture, diplomacy and other facets of life in the country.

“In the death of Ambassador Olusola, Nigeria has lost a diplomat, peace-builder, foremost promoter of culture, humanist, patriot, a consummate writer and dramatist.

“He contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria with his sterling role in the growth of television through The Village Headmaster series which he created. The African Refugee Foundation, which he founded, reached out to vulnerable people all over the continent and beyond. Through the Foundation, many got a second chance in life.

“He was ever so committed to serving humanity wherever he found himself. The best way to remember him is for all of us to keep his legacies alive by working for the peace and unity of Nigeria and promoting the best of our cultures and emphasising things that unite us as a nation.

“We will all miss this great man,”  Daniel said.

The former governor asked the children and associates of Ambassador Olusola to take solace in the fact that he lived a good life in the service of humanity.

Huge Loss — Chime
Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has expressed regrets at the death of foremost Nigerian broadcaster and former Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chief Segun Olusola, describing it as a huge loss to the nation.

The governor, in a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary Chukwudi Achife, described Ambassador Olusola as a committed and influential patriot who inspired many leaders in different walks of life.

Expressing his condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased statesman, Chime, however, urged them to find consolation in the solid legacies he left behind.
