THE Nigerian Army peacekeeping soldiers have been ordered to stop the use of Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other social networks during peacekeeping missions as the Army fears it might compromise security, General Garba A. Wahab, General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, has said.

Nigeria, which is among the top global contributors to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission and has deployed over 45, 000 soldiers to various peacekeeping missions, is now faced with the threat of social networks.

“The attention of Nigerian Army is now drawn to the threat which the social network can cause to the Army and that is why I have said that every peacekeeping soldier on a mission must avoid the use of Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other social networks as it reveals and compromises the “secrets” of the Nigerian Army,” General Wahab said.

During the ceremony of pre-deployment of 800 soldiers to troubled Dafur, Sudan at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Center Jaji on Friday, General Wahab said the Army would soon begun a disciplinary action for soldiers who sexually abused women on a Peacekeeping mission.
