Eulogies poured in on Thursday for the former coordinating chairman of the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT) who doubled as the chairman of the TAT, South South zone, Justice Abdul Salami Abiri (rtd), to mark his disengagement from the tribunal.

At a valedictory session held in his  honour by  the commissioners of the TAT and staff of the tribunal in the South-South zone office in Benin City, Abiri, was  praised  for  putting the tribunal on the front burner since its inauguration in 2010.

In her valedictory address, the acting chairman of the tribunal, Mrs. Adenike Aduke Eyoma, said under Justice Abiri’s watch, a body to draft the rules necessary for the regulation of the proceeding before the tribunal was set up and that the rules were adopted and published in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Official Gazette as T.A.T (Procedure) Rules 2010.

Besides, Mrs. Eyoma said the former TAT boss  strove to present the tribunal as an independent adjudicatory body, set up by law to adjudicate over disputes and controversies between tax authorities and tax payers, and not a collection agent for tax authorities.

She described Justice Abiri as a father whose wisdom,  industry, remarkable perception of human nature, camaraderie and infectious wits would be greatly missed.
